Tranquil location, relaxing wind down following Kruger, friendly staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights stay here. We rented the Kimba house with its own rock pool and garden. The freely roaming impalas, nyalas, zebras, giraffes, ostriches and horses made it a good wind down after spending 5 days in Kruger.
We were welcomed by Cynthia and served a welcome drinks. Cynthia was very informative about the area and informed us warned us about the hippos and crocks at night. Sadly we didn’t see any.
Kimba house is very tastefully decorated, spotlessly cleaned, spacious and well equipped.
The gardens, the bush and the sound of the river is very tranquil. We knew about the road but for us it was just like another side road in Kruger. It takes further 15 minutes after turning from the main road.
The breakfast was scrumptious – with eggs from their own chickens and homemade bread, muffins and the best scones ever.
We also dined the both evenings as the food was so good. We had the best fillet steak with peppered sauce. Also the wine selection is excellent and of a good value.
All the staff were very friendly and professional. The gardener of Kimba house washed our car 2x and it was much appreciated after spending 5 days in Kruger.
For us this place was a piece of paradise.
Both, the Panorama route and Kruger NP are within an hour drive.
We would not hesitate and stay in The Blyde River Wilderness lodge again.
Thank you for your hospitality.
Lovely secluded accommodation
After a bumpy ride from the main road of about 7km (20 mins). Yes this place was secluded but it was worth it for the peace and relaxation.
We were greeted warmly and shown to our accommodation.
We stayed in the Owl House which was lovely, we only stayed 1 night so didn’t really to utilise it to the full potential.
It was very spacious, fully equipped and homely. The main swimming pool was just outside making it easy with the family.
We had an evening meal which was fantastic, with plentiful food eating out under the stars.
We saw deer and peacocks walking around the accommodation and within the wider grounds zebra and ostrich.
We would recommend for anyone looking for peace and quiet.
Single best staff I have ever encountered.
The room was amazing with every little need already catered in advance. Yes the road to it is rough, but 4WD is not necessary. All of the staff were more than welcoming and friendly. The grounds keepers even washed our car both mornings. The dinner and breakfast service is great. The staff is fluent in English as well as several other languages that they were kind enough to share with us. Cynthia and the rest of the staff (do not want to butcher their names’ spelling) were absolutely top notch. There are hippos and crocs in the river, it IS South Africa. The pools are lovely and clean, a bit chilly this time of year for us. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful.
Charming stop before Kruger Park
After a good half hour of bush road, you will arrive in this charming establishment in the middle of a green nature. We enjoyed the animals on the property, as well as the beautiful decor of the room. The dinner is very good.. The waitresses were friendly. On the other hand we had the good surprise to see our car washed the day of our departure. In conclusion, a very good hotel to rest in the heart of the nature.
Unforgettable experience
This lodge absolutely deserves its name. Here is the wilderness up close! The drive to the accommodation leads through a wildlife park and is pure experience! Zebras, giraffes and many other animals like to cross the road. Very nice facility, great friendly staff and a family business, you can experience first hand. John is a very warm and obliging owner who spoils his guests with his family! Delicious food, good rooms and everything you need for a great experience. We will be back!
